Many people tried to start a business, and, of course, when your budget is limited, a small garage is enough at the beginning. Let’s have a look at computer brands that started in garages but succeeded the most.
Microsoft
Bill Gates and Paul Allen, who are the founders of Microsoft, started their business in a garage in Albuquerque. In 1972, they first founded Traf-O-Data, which was a predecessor of Microsoft. Only three years later, Microsoft was established. Today, Microsoft is one of the largest multinational technology companies whose services are used worldwide: Windows, Office, Skype, Visual Studio, and others. In 2020, its revenue reached $143 billion, and the number of employees accumulated nearly 167,000.
In 1998, Susan Wojcicki, the current YouTube CEO, and her husband could not think that they would rent their garage out to the future founders of the top technology company Larry Page and Sergey Brin. In 2020, Google was valued at $632 billion and had over 115,000 employees.
Apple
It all began in Cupertino, California. Steve Jobs’ parents allowed their son and his friend, Steve Wozniak, to use their garage. In 1976, Wozniak designed the first Apple computer for $500. The value of Apple Inc. hit $2 trillion in 2020 and the company became the first American company to make it. Even though the founders quickly found another space to work, Apple is on the list of the biggest computer brands that started in garages.
That is what may happen when you start a company in a garage. Who is next?
