The first devices, which later evolved in today's computers, were very simple and were based on mechanical principles. But the very first electronic computer is ENIAC, whose development began around 1943 in America and was not completed until around 1946. ENIAC was designed to calculate fire tables for the US Army during World War II. But the war fortunately ended and it didn't come to use. It was eventually used in the development of thermonuclear weapons.
ENIAC was able to perform conditional calculations and iterations. And so it went on ENIAC is taken as the first predecessor of the computer we know now. The direct successor of ENIAC was the MANIAC computer.
The public only found out about it a few months before its release, even though it had been under construction for 3 years. Its price was estimated at 500,000 dollars at the time.
It was programmed using switches, but later it was modified to execute a program stored in ROM, in the form of function tables read from a primitive reader. In 1952, its speed was increased fivefold and in 1953, its main memory was expanded. In 1987, ENIAC was added to the list of electronic inventions. This list includes electronic inventions.
Our first computer was designed mainly for counting and that is why it is also called a computer. However, this machine weighed over 30 tons and took up a lot of space, and therefore the development of other computers for other uses has begun.
